Welcome to My Little Blog

This is my first post.  It's mainly just a welcome to my brand new site.  I suppose, since you are here, I ought to tell you a little bit about myself.

I am, at the time of this writing, in my early 30's.  I began my foray into higher education at the age of 27 when I spent a year doing courses part-time at St. Charles Community College.  After that, I was ready for the big leagues, so I transferred to the University of Missouri, majoring in political science and religious studies.  However, I always knew that I wanted to be a librarian.  Altogether, my undergrad career lasted nine semesters.  I made my first trip to the UK and spent a semester at Lancaster University in the Fall of 2009.  I graduated with honors in December 2010.

Now, I am student at the School of Information Science and Learning Technologies, still at the University of Missouri.  I work part-time as a Graduate Library Assistant and oversee the day-to-day operations of one of the branch libraries on campus.  I also kept my 12 hour a week student assistantship at the Special Collections department of Ellis Library where I have worked since the June 2008.  Nearly three months ago, I was appointed as the Professional Development Chair of the Library and Information Studies Graduate Student Assocation (LISGSA).  This blog is in response to a lot of what I have been learning in professional development this semester, namely to make sure to have a good web presence before beginning the job search process.

For me, that process really will not get into full swing until next summer.  I plan on finishing my MLS degree in December 2012, a full two years after I began, and six and a half years since I first took a college course.

In upcoming blog posts, I will expound upon why it took so long for me to begin college in the first place, and the different options I have career-wise after graduation.  I also hope to point people who are interested in professional development to other sites on the web that might be helpful to them.  However, most importantly, I plan on chronicling the last year of my graduate career, my job search process, and what I learn along the way.

Join me if you will.
